There are so many people who are interested in opening their own bed and breakfast. However, many who do so are unprepared for the experience and become frustrated and then eventually end up going out of business. Before you act too hastily, you owe it to yourself to read all you can, study options, and take some courses. The following information can be a start for you and should assist you as you plan for your own bed and breakfast. It is a result of my many years of study on the subject in preparation for opening my own bed and breakfast. This material was prepared back in 2000 prior to my retirement. It was used as the basis for many aspiring innkeeper workshops where I assisted in teaching. Even though it is a bit dated, the information provided is still sound. I hope it helps you as you begin your exploration into the world of innkeeping.
Innkeepers are always willing to share their insights with those who are also interested in innkeeping. However, be open and honest with the innkeeper when you contact them. Schedule a time to talk with them. Do not just call on the phone and expect to be recieved warmly. Do not show up on their doorstep asking to come in for a tour and some advice! Do not expect them to share everything with you, especially if you will eventually be their competition!
There are several on line forums where aspiring innkeepers can visit and chat on line with other innkeeprs and aspirings. A new one I would encourage you to visit is INNSpiring.com.
